Project Love 2009

In commitment to support the community that STARS (TL) operate in, STARS has launched ‘Project Love’ for an orphanage in the Gleno province in Timor-Leste. Many of these children have lost their families during the turmoil. This orphanage is run by an Australian missionary and a Timorese lady, and they survive solely on contributions.

A donation drive was done by STARS to collect contributions from ST Logistics and fellow colleagues. The boxes of contributions, which included basic necessities and educational materials, were kindly shipped from Singapore to Timor-Leste by Perkins Shipping and Anslem Logistics, our partners in supporting Timor-Leste operations.

‘Project Love’ has brought many big smiles for the children!

Project Love 2010

On 15 October 2010, the General Manager of STARS, Mr. Soon Kim Tat, together with the AGM of STARS (TL), Mr. Charles Cumming and staff of STARS (TL) visited an orphanage located at Maubara district, Timor Leste. The orphanage is managed by two Canossian Sisters who take loving care of 36 children between the ages of 4 and 12 years. The visit brought joy and many smiles to the faces of the children as items such as clothing, stationery, toys and games, among others, were handed out to the children. These items were generously contributed by staff of STARS, Singapore.

Many colleagues were very enthusiastic about the event this year, and spent much time planning, purchasing and packing the gifts.

Thanks to Perkins Shipping for providing free shipping of the contributed items.

This is the second year that STARS and STARS (TL) have organised such visits and contributions to orphanages in Timor Leste. It is a way of contributing back to the society and helping the underprivileged children towards a brighter future.

Project Love 2012

As part of STARS (TL) community program in Timor Leste, we have adopted 2 soccer teams from the villages in Comoro district, situated in the vicinity of the airport. These are an under-12 team, FC STARS Galos, and an under-21 team, FC STARS Anin, named after the community where the teams reside at, and STARS.

The teams are very enthusiastic and passionate as seen by the 100% attendance rate at the twice weekly training sessions. Regular friendly matches are organised with teams from other districts in Dili, and the under-21 team recently achieved third place in a national soccer competition.

At a recent community ceremony, the District Chief of Comoro, thanked STARS (TL) for our efforts in supporting the youth of Dili, thereby enhancing their motto of “Promoting Health and Peace Through Sports”.
